The error message comes from Apple's disc recording framework. Can you please give us more detailed information? Is the drive mounted internally or externally? Where did you purchase it? What brand media are you using? (It makes a big difference). Are you writing to BD-R or BD-RE? Single or double layer? If BD-RE, erasing or burning? Have you tried burning with Apple's Disc Utility or Toast? Have you tried contacting the manufacturer?
Do you have the drive's latest firmware update? I see some confusion on various web forums on how to apply the firmware update, under Windows. For further testing, I would suggest you purchase a small pack of Verbatim BD-RE single layer discs, that way you won't destroy write-once media.
